Everyone wants to get on to the much hyped and awaited 4G Network in India - Reliance Jio. But, it is available as a free preview currently and only on select smartphones like the LYF phones, select Samsung Galaxy Smartphones. These SIM cards are available at Reliance Digital Stores across the country.
Currently, there is a workaround that is letting users make use of the free preview offer given that you have an ANDROID powered device! Yes, you read that right!
Step 1: If you have any Jio apps installed currently, UNINSTALL THEM!
Step 2: Download the MY JIO app from Google PlayStore.
Step 3: After you download the My Jio app, Open the app and all you have to do is install the 10 other apps mentioned in the list.
Once installed, turn off the WiFi/Mobile internet on your phone. You should not have internet connectivity for the next step. (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT)
Step 4: Close the JIO app. Re-open it and open the My JIO section in the app. You will see a screen as shown below.
Now, go back and turn on Mobile internet/WiFi on your device and click the GET JIO SIM button and it will lead you to a screen like this
It will ask your location to check if you are eligible for the offer or not! As JIO is currently available in limited locations, you need to enter your state and city to check if you can get a SIM or not,
If you are eligible, the app will guide you with the steps to get a JIO sim for FREE PREVIEW OFFER.
Click next to begin the process and generate the offer code. The code will look something like the one below
The next few screens will let you know about the range of accepted documents for the sim and helps you locate the nearest Reliance Digital Store in your city. Once done, you will be left with the work of going to the store to get the SIM card and waiting for it to ACTIVATE.
I have tried this with a OnePlus One running on Marshmallow based Cyanogen OS 13.1. You can test this with any android device that you have and see if this works for you. This will in most cases work fine if the steps are diligently followed.
RECOMMENDED : Take a printout of the offer code along with the photocopies of the documents and a passport size photograph.
All the best with this workaround.
Until next time,
Stay sleepy... zzz...
